Proof of financial Stability

When applying for a visa you will have to show your means of subsistence. This can be shown in one of the following ways/methods:

Scholarship

  • For a full-scholarship an advancement of min. 720.- € per month has to be submitted through a written scholarship commitment.
  • For a partial scholarship with an advancement of less than 720.- € per month, the remaining deficit has to be proven (720.- € minus the amount of the partial scholarship/ for the duration of your intended stay).

Formal Obligation

In accordance with §§ 66-68 of the AufenthG (German Residence Act), a “Formal Obligation” can be submitted as means of subsistence. With this formal obligation the financially obligatory Person living either in Germany or abroad is financially responsible for any cost incurred in Germany. The formal obligation can be obtained at any immigration office within Germany or at any German Embassy/General German Consulate abroad.

With regards to the documentations to be submitted for this formal obligation, please contact the respective authority.

Note: The formal obligation has to be issued with the financial efficiency with ‘proven’ (nachgewiesen), for the safeguard of your studies. An acceptance especially from your sponsor living abroad cannot be guaranteed.

The following possibilites are only for the application. You do not get a residence permit without the blocked account. Please see below how to proceed.

Parental Capital and Income

It is possible to fund your stay through your parents. You have to submit evidence stating that they have enough income or sufficient capital to fund your stay for at least one year. You should submit:

  • payslips of both parents
  • bank statements of all bank accounts
  • etc.

You also have to declare that you will open a limited-withdrawal/blocked bank account when you arrive in Germany. After your arrival you can choose a bank and open your account, which you have to proof at the competent Immigration Office, otherwise you will not receive a residence permit.

Sponsor

A further option to parental capital and income can also be a sponsor. You can choose a sponsor to fund your stay. A sponsor can be a person with sufficient funds, schools, charitable organizations.
You have to submit evidence stating that he/she has enough income or sufficient capital to fund your stay for at least one year. You should submit payslips, bank accounts, letters stating that an organization is your sponsor etc.
You also have to declare that you will open a limited-withdrawal/blocked bank account when you arrive in Germany. After your arrival you can choose a bank and open your account, which you have to proof at the competent Immigration Office, otherwise you will not receive a residence permit.
