Documents to be submitted

You have to be present at the Embassy for verification of your identity and to provide your fingerprints.

Please ensure that you bring all documents listed on the checklist in their original form along with one (1) set of copies.

Additionally, kindly ensure that there are no staples attached to any of the documents


⬜ 1 duly completed and signed national visa application forms (VIDEX)

⬜ 1 biometric passport pictures not older than 6 months (white/grey background- teeth cannot be visible) Photo requirements

⬜ valid passport (data page and signature page only)

⬜ valid Malaysian permit (applicable to non-Malaysians only)

⬜ marriage certificate* + translation - see reference below

⬜ proof of basic German proficiency Level A1 Certificate from either Goethe Institute, Telc or ÖSD incl. from institutions recognized by ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe)

⬜ German passport/ identification card of your spouse

German certificate of residence (Meldebescheinigung) of your spouse (if applicable)

Travel, Health and Accident Insurance with a validity of 6 months starting from your intended travel date

1. Legalization / Apostille

Legalization of original Malaysian civil status certificate(s)

Malaysian marriage, birth and death certificate(s) must to be endorsed by the Malaysian foreign ministry (Wisma Putra) and legalized by the German Embassy.

Legalization / Apostille of non-Malaysian civil status certificate(s)

If you hold a non-Malaysian civil status certificate (s) please refer to the respective German Embassy of the issuing country regarding the legalization/ Apostille.

Endorsements from your local embassy/ consulate is not acceptable!

2. Translation

Please make sure to get your certificate(s) translated into German.

Certificates not written in German, English or Malay should be translated into English first before contacting our registered translators for the translation into German.


General Information

The Embassy generally issues visas with a minimum validity of 90 days, allowing multiple entries. Shortly after entering Germany, the visa holder must contact the responsible Immigration Office (Ausländerbehörde) in Germany, which then issues the final residence Permit.

Visa Fee: free of charge

Processing time: min. 4 weeks

The above list is not comprehensive and is updated frequently. Additional documents may be required in individual cases. Incomplete applications cannot be processed and you may be asked to book another appointment. Applicants may be called in for an Interview.
