I. Documents to be submitted

For identification purposes and fingerprint taking you are required to be personally present at the German Embassy during visa submission and submit the following documents separated into 3 sets (Originals + 1st copy + 2nd copy)

  • 2 duly completed and signed National Visa Application forms (to be downloaded via our website)
  • 2 recent biometric passport pictures (grey/ white background – teeth cannot be visible)
  • valid passport (data page and signature page only) (Original + 2 copies)
  • valid Malaysian permit (applicable to non-Malaysians only) (Original + 2 copies)
  • Proof Admission letter/ Invitation letter from a university in Germany (Original + 2 copies)
  • Letter from your university here in Malaysia (Original + 2 copies)
  • Motivation Letter (signed) (2 Originals)
  • Proof of Language proficiency in which the course will be conducted

    German language proficiency (Goethe) / English language proficiency (IELTS/ TOEFL) (Original + 2 copies)

  • Proof of your past qualifications/ educations (certificates) (Original + 2 copies)
  • Travel, Health and Accident Insurance (to be submitted upon approval of your visa) 
  • Means of subsistence (Original + 2 copies)

    - blocked account at a German bank showing a minimum amount according to the duration of your intended stay (withdrawal limit of 853 per month).
    You have free choice of provider. Information on providers that offer this service worldwide is available on the federal Foreign Office website:
    - proof of sponsorship/Stipendium by a German institution
    - a formal letter of obligation, according to paragraph §§ 66-68 of the Aliens Act, from a resident of Germany and for the duration of the applicant’s stay in Germany

    II. Reference

    The Embassy generally issues residence titles for specific purposes in the form of a visa with a minimum validity of 90 days, allowing multiple entries. Shortly after entering Germany, the visa holder must contact the responsible Immigration Office (Ausländerbehörde) in Germany, which then issues the final residence permit.

    Following the approval of the visa application and before the visa can be issued; you must provide evidence that you have travel insurance for the period between arrival in the country and commencement of your studies.

    Visa Fee: € 75 (payable in Ringgit and cash only)

    Processing time: min. 4 weeks

    The above list is not comprehensive and is updated frequently. Additional documents may be required in individual cases. Incomplete applications cannot be processed and you may be asked to book another appointment. Applicants may be called in for an Interview.
